“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “no”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “So far is money issues.”

“If there were greater financial aid option, is that something you would pursue?
- “Oh yeah for sure.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “I think like you said, the financial aid. I know there are some out there that lower the price, but like it is $4,000 and people don’t have $4,000 sitting around. So I think the financial aid option would make that a little easier and accessible to people.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “I think just the opportunity. I know the school partners with a lot of great programs. I know like you can go to London, see like CNN in London and different companies. I think it is an amazing thing if you get to participate in that and it exposes you to a lot of great things.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “I think just the cost, I don’t think there is anything bad about being able to travel, so yea just the cost.”

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “No I haven’t, but I am going to be an SA this summer.”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “There is a lack of information available to students about these programs. I am not really sure what options are available for my major or where to find out more about it.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “The information should be more accessible to students. It would be helpful if someone brought handouts to a class or something like that to get the information out there more. Also just marketing it better to students in general would help attract more attention to the program.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “Visiting other countries helps you become more culturally well-rounded, and those experiences can be used in all types of different situations. Also you are getting classes that you need out of the way so that helps towards graduating.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “The cost is pretty high and there are not enough scholarships available, if there were a solution to those problem, I think the program would interest more people.”

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “No”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “My summer job as an orientation leader”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “I don’t really know a lot about the programs to suggest something, but I feel like a lot of people say they can’t go due to financial reasons.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- I think without it, a lot of people wouldn’t be able to travel to another country, like with such a big group of people they are familiar with and still get to learn.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “That you are away from your family for so long.”

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “I have not”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “just not looking into availability for it and being a chemistry major it is hard to do labs in other countries, which sucks.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “Maybe having more classes available or being told more about what there is.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “Getting to experience a new country, just because immersing yourself in another culture is super cool.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “You’re gone from everyone for a semester which is crazy, you just pack up and move your life away. I don’t know, maybe if things don’t transfer correctly, not much.”

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “no”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “I prefer to do traveling on my own time and doing my own thing.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “Bring the cost down would help a lot of students for sure. Also the summer is a hard time for a lot of students to commit to a trip like that, so maybe it would help to offer more programs during the spring and fall semesters.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “ Just experience new and different people and things can benefit a person a lot, it is an opportunity a lot of people might not ever get. Texas State also has a great program for study abroad.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- Sometimes these things can turn in more of a party abroad type of thing, but students still get a lot out of the experience. Also I don’t think that student get enough independent time to explore their surrounds, but I know that there has to be some structure since they are still taking classes. Regardless, I think Texas State is a great place to experience the Study Abroad program.”

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “No, I have not.”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “Well as a pre-nursing student, you don’t get a lot of opportunities to study abroad.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “I feel like specifically for pre-nursing students, send out more emails or make it more noticeable, because personally I don’t even know if we have study abroad programs for nursing students because I was never told and it is a little too late.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “You’re able to apply the things you learned some other places besides the United States because other countries do have different cultures and have other ways of doing things.”

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “I guess being away from my family, but I would definitely do that [laughing].

“Have you had an internship, or participated in a Study Abroad or Study in America program?”
- “I work for Dr. Du in the bio-chemistry department and she does research on Neuro-blastoma cell differentiation, so I things for her like cleaning and preparing lab samples for her and other lab students.”

“Why did you or haven’t you participated? What stands in the way?”
- “Probably because being a science major, it is really hard to find programs that will transfer and not push you back a semester.”

“What do you think should be done to make these programs more accessible to students?”
- “I think as far as science majors are, help them find ways that they can get credit and study abroad so they don’t get pushed behind. Making sure that they can do it, I don’t think I know a single science major who has done study abroad.”

“How do you think students benefit from these programs?”
- “Traveling is always good and it helps you gain new perspectives and I think everyone should do it if they can.

“What is the downside of such programs?”
- “Well it depends, if you go somewhere where you don’t know the language, that is terrible, but then you can learn it so that is a plus. Airplanes are terrible and scary.”
