SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Study-in-America Program announced their destinations for the 2018 “Storytelling in the Parks” trip. Students will travel to the Grand Canyon as well as many other national and state parks.

Last summer Kim Fox, Dale Blasingame and Program Assistant Nicole Hengst led nine students on the road trip of a lifetime. Leaving from San Marcos, they headed out on a 14-day camping adventure to some of the best state and national parks in the country.

“I was very surprised at how much our students were willing to push their boundaries,” said Nicole Hengst, “we had students on this trip that have never camped, hiked or traveled outside of a 50 mile radius.”

Students that participate in the program will earn six college credit hours, visit six national and state parks that reach from Texas to New Mexico and have the opportunity to get published.

It’s not like most study abroad programs. You get a completely different learning experience, said Nicole Hengst.

“Completely different learning experience than you would get traveling through another country,” she said.

The trip is affordable for many students. Last year’s participants paid $750 per course with a programing fee of $900, which covers travel activities and some food. The program can be covered by financial aid, and students can even set up a payment plan.

Applications for this summer 2018 Study-In-America program will open in the spring. Students that wish to participate must apply and go through an interview process.
